Last Sunday we spent the day working on the new three year School Plan, effective from 2018-2020. It was a full day with rich discussion. We revisited our direction and focus in terms of strategic planning, which enabled setting a strong vision for the school. The School Plan will be available on our website once completed.

Kindy transition to School
Today we welcome our new Kindergarten students to attend the transition to school program. Our special little people will join their future classmates in some exciting and fun Kindergarten activities. The Year 5 students enjoyed their buddy training day last week and are eagerly awaiting meeting their new young buddies today. We wish them all the best in forming new relationships and guiding our new Kindies in their transition to school.
It would be appreciated if you could please remind children that bullying is not acceptable, including “bystander’ bullying. Our full Welfare, Discipline and Anti- Bullying policies are on our school website policies, reports and plans I have also listed some points from our policy below and included a fact sheet in this Scoop.
DEFINITION OF BULLYING
Bullying is defined as intentional, repeated behaviour by an individual or group of individuals that causes distress, hurt or undue pressure to someone else. The five main types of bullying are:
Physical - hitting, kicking, theft
Verbal - name calling, racist remarks
Indirect - spreading rumours, excluding someone from social groups
Cyber - using digital technology to negatively target another student Bystander - passively accepting and taking no action
Further information can be accessed on the NSW Department of Education website Anti-bullying for parents and carers
2018 School Fete planning
It was fabulous to see so many parents and students attend the “pizza and post it note party” last Tuesday. There were lots of delicious pizza creations along with some fantastic ideas for our 2018 fete. If you didn’t get the opportunity to attend the evening, you are welcome to attend the next P&C fundraising meeting, Wednesday 15 November at 3pm. There is still time to put forward any stall ideas or to put your name down as a helper.
Stage 2/3 Sport
Just a reminder that on Friday afternoon some of the Stage 2/3 sport activities will be at North Broulee beach. If you need to collect your child early from school on a Friday please provide their teacher with a note so that they will be at school when you come to pick them up.
Aurora College – Entry to Year 7 in 2019 If you have a student in Year 5 this year who is gifted/talented, please read the following information about Aurora College carefully.
Aurora College offers selective classes in English, Mathematics and Science to gifted and talented Year 7-10 students from rural and remote areas across NSW. Students are chosen in the same way as students in all other selective classes in NSW government schools – via the NSW Selective High School Test. Year 5 students nominate to do this test at the beginning of Year 6. Students can access Aurora College through either of our local government high schools – Batemans Bay and Moruya.
To better understand the context of Aurora College, I invite you to visit the school website http://www.aurora.nsw.edu.au/.
Applications for entry to Year 7 in 2019 opened on 10 October 2017 and close 13 November 2017. Applications and further information can be found at https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high- schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-7 .
