Keep all fingers crossed that this Friday's weather will be mild - no wind or rain.
This year we will hold our Athletics Carnival over two days. This Friday 20 June we will conduct our House March, Track and Tug-O-War events at Captain Oldrey Park. Next Tuesday 24 June we will hold the Field and Ball events on our school oval.
This is the first year that we have organised the carnival this way. Traditionally we have held the field events across our Friday sports program, but this has never left us with time to actually practise and teach the various skills and techniques associated with each event (shotput, discus, long jump, high jump, ball games). This year the decision was made to actually teach and practise the skills and then conduct our Carnival. Hopefully this will increase participation rate, skill level and we may even find our next new Olympic champions.
On Friday students arrive at school as normal and have their class roll marked before heading to Captain Oldrey Park. Students should wear their sports uniform, bring a drink bottle, asthma puffer (if required), snack food (healthy) and something warm to sit on. The Canteen will only be open for lunch (first break) at 11:00 - 11:45 am. There will be no second break.
Students from Kindergarten to Year 2 will be involved in a mini carnival, but all students from Kindergarten to Year 6 will participate in the House March.
Next Tuesday we will then hold our Carnival (Ball/Field events) and this will involve students from Years 2 to Year 6. This will be held in the school and will follow normal school times.
All parents/carers are welcome to attend both carnivals as spectators and/or helpers. We would particularly love some assistance with timekeeping and judging on Friday. You are not expected to commit to the whole day, but some time on Friday morning would be wonderful.
I would like to express grateful thanks to Tina Clare who has been our wonderful P&C President for the past three and a half years. Tina brought energy, enthusiasm and knowledge to the position and it was wonderful working with her. Although stepping down, Tina will not be leaving us altogether. Tina will remain an active member of our P&C, especially with the Garden Club.
$$ from Teachers Mutual Bank!
Many thanks to the Teachers Mutual Bank for their generous donation of our Netball goalposts. Seen here are our Netball girls along with Kaylene Collis, Teachers Mutual Bank representative.
The girls have certainly put the goalposts to good use and we have a very competitive and talented school team this year. In their most recent game against Ulladulla PS they came out winners 30-5. This Thursday the girls will travel to Queanbeyan where they will play Jerrabomberra PS. Good luck girls and many thanks to parents and Miss Clarke who will be travelling with the team.
