Well done to Eva Barker, Stella Lloyd Jones, Sarah Burnes and Oliver Dolphin who are all finalists in the Mayors Writing Competition. On 21 August these children will be special guests at a morning tea at the Council Chambers when the students will be presented with prizes and certificates.
Great Work Girls
Several Yr 6 girls showed great initiative when they recently raised $760 dollars to go towards work on the netball court. The girls organised and ran a mufti day ($302) and an ice cream day ($406). Lucy, Erin and Ruby were the key organisers with extra help on the ice-cream day from Soma, Helaina, Holli, Simone, Jazzy, Alice, Kylie and Jana. Bree, Meg, Roxy and Laila from Year 5 also helped out with the ice creams. Congratulations girls - a fine effort and thanks to our families for their support.
Literacy and Numeracy Week
Literacy and Numeracy Week will run from 25 August until 29 August. This is a great opportunity to highlight the importance of reading and number skills for all children. At school we will celebrate the enjoyment reading can bring to everyone by having a RED day (Read Every Day) on the 25 August . Children will be encouraged to wear red and we will have a designated session where the entire school will be reading at the same time. We will also be encouraging all families to spend time reading with your child at home.
We will also be running some parent workshops that will provide parents with information about the new Maths curriculum and how Maths is now being taught in the different stages. During these workshops staff will do mini presentations on what's happening in Maths across the classrooms.
More details about both the above initiatives will be provided in next weeks Scoop.
Can you help?
We are wanting to get a class set of both badminton and tennis racquets before the end of term. This would be a great resource to use for students of all ages. If you have a badminton or tennis racquet that you no longer use, we would love donations of these for use during our sports lessons. They do not have to be the latest style, design or material, all will be gratefully accepted. Please drop them into the office if you can help.
Many thanks you for your support.
Proposed Bus Changes for 2015
The principal from St Peters Anglican School has advised me that they have applied to both Marshalls and Priors bus companies to have the school bus timetables adjusted to cater for a longer school day at St Peters. The bus companies have yet to confirm their 2015 timetables but the proposal shows that on 2014 timetables at least four bus services will be affected. While the extension is not extensive the end result is that the buses will wait an additional 3-5 minutes on top of the time they are already waiting at St Peters in the afternoon and students would be picked up 2 -3 minutes earlier in the morning. St Peters wish to have additional school holidays.
We have been advised that Rangers/Police will be roving the drop off and pick up areas out the front of the school. Please ensure that you follow all road rules or you will be facing a fine (which is substantial). For more details please see the following form.
