I would like to extend a warm welcome to our new families, either in Kindergarten or families new to the area, it's lovely to have you join our school community.
We are off to a very smooth, but exciting start. Classes were in place and children busy at work by 9:15 am on day one! I appreciate the wonderful support from my staff in being able to achieve this result. Many were in for days over the holidays, moving and preparing their classrooms and lesson plans.
This week is our first full week with all of our students attending from Kindergarten through to Year 6. The school continues to expand with the demand for enrolment far surpassing the number of student positions available. Even with a new additional Kindergarten class, we have had to decline a number of enrolment applications where students live outside our zoned area.
To increase parental awareness around school zones and enrolment we have now posted our "Out of Area Enrolment Policy" on our school website.
Staff and Classes: With the additional new class we have welcomed Mrs Cathy West to our staff. Some of you may remember Mrs West from last year when she relieved in Kindergarten.
I would also like to welcome Mrs Rachel Dunne who is replacing Mrs Isbester. Mrs Isbester is enjoying retirement while Mrs Lynne Takacs is relieving Principal at Bodalla Public School for term 1 and is being replaced by Mrs Meg Lander.
The following is a list of classes and staff for 2015. The name of each class group will reflect the year level followed by the first letter of each teacher's surname, eg Mrs Frost's Year 2 class will be 2F.

As we wanted to keep our three Kindergarten classes together, we have relocated some of the other classes to new rooms. To help you find the new locations we have included a school map in this weeks Scoop. This map will also be available on our web site.
Although we ordered the furniture for our extra class we are still waiting for some of it be delivered. For example we have tables but no chairs, but we have been promised that all should be delivered by 11 February. It's lucky that Kindy chidren are still little and don't mind spending some time on the floor.
Congratulations to Mrs Dunn, one of our wonderful Kindy teachers who became an Australian citizen last Monday. Mrs Dunn, who originally came from England, now calls Australia home!
Special thanks to our wonderful Rural Fire Brigade who have spent hours throughout the holiday period cleaning up the scrub in our bush area. Not only has it reduced the fire hazard but also the snake hazard. Our school would never have had the resources - human or machinery to do such a wonderful job. Our grateful thanks to all involved!
Jackie French inspires children to read: The ability to read is critical in the school setting and certainly an indicator of educational and career success. It is however much more then that, reading can be a life long leisure skill that can be enjoyed over the years and across all settings. I was therefore delighted to see that well known author Jackie French was recognised in the Australia Day Honours list. I have attached the following link where French talks about the value of reading, especially reading out loud. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
