The staff spent Monday’s Staff Development Day discussing how we can modify and improve our assessing and reporting procedures and school areas for our students. We had some great discussions and ideas that we will be looking to develop further over the rest of the year.
This Friday our school will be celebrating National Tree Day. It will be an opportunity for all our students to do some planting and improve the local environment. Kinder students will be planting shrubs in our school grounds. Years 1–3 will be planting in the Banksia Village premises. They will be working with Courtney Fink-Downes (Eurobodalla Shire Council Natural Resources Supervisor). Years 4–6 will be working with Landcare Coordinator, Emma Patyus to do planting in the Broulee dunes from the North Broulee mosaic toilet block back to Candlagan Bridge. The children are encouraged to bring along gardening gloves to wear and a gardening trowel if they wish.
One of the many items discussed yesterday was the tendency for our students to run on paths and our main cement quad area and through our gardens and no run areas of the school. Today all classes reviewed these spaces with their teachers to reinforce that it is not a safe practice. It would be a great topic for dinner table discussion when you are asking your children about their first day back tonight.
A reminder the P&C will be holding a Working Bee at the school on Saturday 18 August. It would be great to have as many families as possible involved. We will be looking to complete the designs of some areas and start the creation of some projects in the school.
Education Week is in Week 3 of this term (6-10 August). This year’s theme is “Today’s schools- creating tomorrow’s world”. To celebrate the week we will be holding open classrooms on Thursday 9 August starting at 12:40 pm. This will be followed by a chance for families to have a recess with their children before an Education Week themed assembly after recess. Education Week is always a terrific celebration of students learning and a wonderful opportunity for your child to show off their work and classroom learning.
