Dr Patti Rose - Yesterday we started our journey with Dr Patti Rose on anti bullying strategies. It was a very full day with a number of key messages given to everyone. We will now develop these messages into key strategies so that our students can be "Broulee Upstanders" - students who stand up against bullying.
The key message that was delivered to everyone is that bullying has three parts to it:
1. It is a behaviour or comments that are meant to hurt the targeted person.
2. It (comments/or behaviours) must be repeated over and over, this may occur over a period of time but an isolated single incident is not bullying.
3. There must be an imbalance of power (age, intellect, numbers, etc) otherwise it is conflict not bullying.
While conflict is not nice it is not bullying and we need to look at it differently.
If all three things (hurt, repetition and power imbalance) aren't happening then it is not bullying.
It was great to see our parents who attended the last session for the day. This session was only 45 minutes long but every minute was packed full of information and knowledge. A reminder that the parent representative on our committee is Andrew Smith (Gretel's dad)
Reports - Last Saturday our staff spent the day developing our new reporting proforma. This new report format will provide more information to parents regarding their child's progress as well as linking more specifically to the curriculum outcomes. Many thanks to all our staff for their dedication and passion for education.
Uniform - could parents please note that the school uniform does not include black leggings/tights in place of the green track pants for the girls. The black leggings are not acceptable and should not be worn.
