Our School Captains, Bree Mealy, Damia O'Loughlin, Seth Conolan and Stuart Megee will feature in next week's Scoop as we were unable to get all four of them in a photo for this week.
This week however I am delighted to introduce our House Captains.
Student Attendance - If you ever take your child out of school for any other reason other then being sick you need to read the changes to the Departments Attendance Policy.
The department's documents have been revised to reflect the new National Standards for Student Attendance and Reporting. This will impact on families who have traditionally sought exemptions from school to attend special family events or holidays. Such exemptions will no longer be able to be provided and your child will have to be marked on the school register as having "Unjustified Leave". Basically the expectation now is that unless your child is sick they are expected to attend school.
If you have any questions or would like more information please either phone the school or read the following documents that have been published on the department’s policy website.
Revised School Attendance Policy, Student Attendance in Government Schools – Procedures and the Exemption from School – Procedures
Dean Ashenden has been involved in, and written about school education issues for decades. However much you may agree or disagree with him, his articles are always thoughtful and well worth reading. His article in a recent Inside Story covers some important, controversial ground and is certainly thought provoking.
Hygiene and Hand Washing
Just a reminder to ask if all parents could reinforce the role of hygiene and the need for hand washing both before eating and also after visiting the toilet. Each classroom has pump bottles of liquid soap available in the class wet areas for student use and students are always encouraged to use this when washing their hands (before they go out for lunch and recess and when they return from any toilet visit).
Check out the Fun Run being coordinated by the P&C from Broulee and Moruya Public Schools. Come and join in the fun and get fit while your doing it. For further details see the P&C section of our Scoop.
